Playing Blackjack

The object of blackjack is to get as close to the number 21 with your cards as possible, without going over. It doesn't matter what the other players have because you are trying to beat the dealers hand. The average game of blackjack can be played with up to 6 or 7 players.

When playing the game, everyone is dealt two cards. The dealers hand is usually played with one card face up and once card face down. The players cards maybe dealt face up or face down. A player may take as many cards as he wants until he either stops or exceeds 21.

Blackjack Terms

There are some terms used in playing the game of blackjack that players need to be aware of. These are the players options during the game.

Hit - Take another card.

Stand - Taking no more cards, staying with what you have.

Double Down - The practice of doubling the bet on the first two cards, taking only one more card face down and then standing.

Split - If a player receives a pair, meaning two cards of the same value he can split them into two hands. The player must place an equal bet on each hand and play the hands seperately.

Surrender - After the dealer has checked for blackjack a player may surrender his hand, by giving up half of his bet and not playing the hand.
